How Does Flodesk Work?
As an email marketing provider, Flodesk has a few components to it. In this section, I’m going to dive deeper into each one of Flodesk’s main features.
Email Design
Flodesk’s email composer and designer is incredibly intuitive and easy to use. To start, create a new email and then select from one of their many templates or start from scratch.
Once you’ve selected a template you like, click customize and then start changing the design of the email to suit your brand. You can use their drag and drop feature to move elements around and easily change colors, fonts, and images.
The email designer also provides you with multiple elements you can add to your email as required.
Simply select one and move it to wherever you want it to live.
Once you’re done making all the necessary changes, you can then preview your email on desktop and mobile view.
You can also send a test email to ensure everything is working properly.
Once you’ve polished your email and are ready to send it, you can then move on to choosing which segment you’d like to send it to. Lastly, you can choose to send it now or schedule it for a later time/date.
Once your email is sent you can then take a look at the delivery statistics to monitor things like open rate, click rate, bounce rate, and more.
Form Creation
Creating and editing a form with Flodesk only takes a few minutes. Go to the forms section in the Flodesk dashboard and choose from one of the pre-made templates. You can choose a popup, inline, or full-page form.
Next, all you have to do is change the picture and add your own custom text so that the form matches your brand.
With Flodesk, you can then choose to display the form in four different time periods as well as other customization options such as:
- Should we show this to return visitors who already subscribed? (Yes or No)
- When subscribers opt in to this form (Notify me or Do not notify me)
- After this form is submitted (Display success message or Redirect to a URL)
Once you’ve selected your customization options you’ll be given some code that you’ll need to install in the header section of your website.
That’s it! Once the code is installed you’ll be able to easily start collecting subscribers from your website who you can then later send email campaigns or enter into a workflow.
Workflows
Although Flodesk’s workflow feature isn’t the most robust of all email automation tools I’ve used, it’s quite capable of doing what most people need it to do.
Essentially a workflow allows you to define specific actions to take once a subscriber has entered the flow.
For example, if a new subscriber joins from your popup form, you can then enter that subscriber into one of your welcome series workflows. This way, you’ll be able to send them a pre-defined number of welcome emails automatically.
Flodesk makes this process very easy. To get started, you’ll need to choose one of Flodesk’s four workflow templates or start one from scratch.
The first thing to do is choose a trigger and an audience segment that will set off the workflow. Next, you can start building your workflow by staggering out emails, setting conditions, and taking action.
You can build these workflows out as long as you like which is great for audiences that need a lot of nurturing.
Integrations
Flodesk’s integrations are where it falls a bit short when compared to other major players in the email marketing space. As they’re still relatively new, they don’t have as many partnerships with other platforms.
That being said, they do offer many integration options through Zapier.
At the time of writing this Flodesk review, they offer an Instagram and Shopify email marketing integration which is great for Shopify e-commerce store owners and Shopify dropshippers.

One of the things I love most about Flodesk is its pricing. If you’ve ever built up any sort of meaningful email list you’ll know that it can get pricey, FAST.
Take Klaviyo for example, if you build a list of 10,000 contacts you’ll be paying $150 a month! That’s a lot of money and the price continues to increase at a rapid pace the more contacts you add.
Flodesk on the other hand has made it ridiculously simple with one flat fee:
