A few months ago, kitchen knives were selling as usual, but now they’re running out of stocks faster than merchants can refill them. “Now” is the worst time to start selling kitchen knives, as everyone does it, and you’ll need a miracle to break even at the end of the day.
That “miracle” is called a product research tool. While these apps weren’t designed to help you excel at selling kitchen knives (primarily), they serve the purpose of pinpointing the most lucrative opportunities by supplying you with neatly organized, accurate data regarding the soon-to-be best-selling items.
Today, I want to show you the best Amazon product research tools, all of which are different enough to give you an edge over your competitors, but similar enough to feel familiar with the software you’ve outsourced so far.
What Are the Best Amazon Product Research Tools?
Here is my list of the best Amazon product research tools of this year.
1. Jungle Scout
Overview
Reliable information is what distinguishes the top Amazon vendors from the struggling ones. Knowing which products are currently in high demand; understanding how the competition is faring, and learning more about upcoming “hits” are just some of the things that an Amazon FBA brand needs in its pocket; to achieve the aforementioned, most Amazon brands use Jungle Scout.
Jungle Scout is the most popular, if not the best Amazon product research tool on the current market, equipped with a host of super-advanced features and delivering big data within seconds.
The design of its Product Tracker is often borrowed but never replicated, as it provides instant access to metrics, such as the average price, search volume, sales trends, product dimensions, and rating for selected products.
Another amazing feature of the Jungle Scout is its product database, which features tens of millions of Amazon products available for you to analyze with various built-in filters.
The integrated Amazon keyword research tool allows businesses to craft better titles for their products, put better tags, and optimize the visibility of their FBA stores. This tool rocks relevancy score, keyword difficulty, and keyword raking as its main features.
Key Features
- Amazon Sales Estimator
- Opportunity Finder
- Historical product tracking data
- Niche Hunter
- Surgically-accurate Product tracker
- A broad product database featuring above 70 million Amazon products
- Keyword scout
- Manual review request
Pricing
Jungle Scout offers three subscription packages, including Basic at $29 per month; Suite at $49 per month, and Professional at $84 per month.
What I Like / Dislike About Jungle Scout
Jungle Scout is the ultimate Amazon product tracking suite of bleeding-edge tools. It would be safe to say that its performance, accuracy, and comprehensiveness were used as a model by virtually all of its contemporaries.
The only downside to Jungle Scout is how limited the Basic subscription is. Basically, you can find up to three products in the database, three keywords per day, and add up to 20 products in the Product Tracker. Suite and Professional suites eliminate these shortcomings, though.
Who Is This For?
I recommend Jungle Scout to all Amazon brands, regardless of size. It’s the best Amazon product research tool, offering a streamlined way to analyze thousands of products and derive robust metrics with a click of a button.
2. Helium10
Overview
Helium10 is an eclectic suite of tools that utilize a combination of Amazon product searching, keyword research, and marketing features. It’s more than just a Jungle Scout alternative, as it offers an array of unique functions and benefits, such as listing optimization tools, Amazon inventory management, refund management, and most notably, the Market Tracker 360.
In terms of Amazon product research, Helium10 offers the Black Box, which allows you to easily identify highly profitable products, and the Trendster, which allows businesses to visualize various Amazon trends.
Just like Jungle Scout, Helium10 rocks an array of keyword research tools, including Cerebro, Magnet, and Misspellinator; when used in combination, Amazon brands can find keyword opportunities through smart suggestions and grab perfect keywords through Amazon identification numbers, as well as correct spelling errors in product listings.
Key Features
- Black Box Amazon product research tool
- Trendster trend checkker
- Cerebro and Magnet keyword research tools
- Index checker
- Listing analyzer
- Automated refund management
- Amazon inventory management
Pricing
Helium10 offers four subscription packages, including Starter at $29 per month; Platinum at $84 per month; Diamond at $209 per month, and Elite at $399 per month.
What I Like / Dislike About Helium10
I love the fact that Helium10 enables brands to find, sell, and promote their products in one swing. The addition of online marketing tools takes out a huge step from the workflow while the product research features are more than robust and versatile.
With the exception of the Starter package, Helium10 is not among the cheapest Amazon product research tools. Its expensiveness is derived from the fact that the platform offers marketing functions in addition to product and keyword research tools.
Who Is This For?
The combination of Helium10 tools is perfect for established Amazon brands that want to ensure long-term success, but it’s also great for emerging FBA brands that are still testing the waters.
3. AMZScout
Overview
AMZScout is one of the best Amazon product research tools for new Amazon brands. Its tools may not be as comprehensive in comparison to Jungle Scout or Helium10, but its services are quite affordable and intuitive to use.
The core feature of AMZScout is the Pro Extension, which essentially encompasses product research, trend-checking, comparison, and listing tools. Additional features include trend reports, a large product database, product tracking, reverse ASIN tool, keyword research, and more.
What separates AMZScout from contemporary Amazon product research platforms is its proprietary Seller’s Course. Basically, both subscriptions feature it, and it’s basically a crash course for new FBA sellers that envelops the fundamentals of being an Amazon trader.
Key Features
- Comprehensive product database with selectable filters
- Amazon Dropshipping research tool
- Amazon keyword tracker
- Reverse ASIN tool
- FBA fees calculator
- Sales estimator
- Stock stats
Pricing
The cost of AMZScout’s services depends on the chosen billing method. When paid monthly, the Pro Extension costs $45.99 per month and the Amazon Seller’s Bundle costs $49.99 per month.
When paid yearly, the Pro Extension costs $16.49 per month while the Amazon Seller’s Bundle costs $29 per month. A one-time lifetime purchase is also available; the Pro Extension costs $499 while Amazon Seller’s Bundle costs $1,499.
What I Like / Dislike About AMZScout
The flexible pricing options are what I liked the most about AMZScout. You can purchase the suite and use it forever, commit to annual billing (and essentially pay significantly less), or pay the average price for a couple of months while you check its features out.
Additionally, the dropshipping search and Amazon fees calculator are tremendously valuable for newcomers, but more importantly, the Seller’s Course is what I believe new Amazon vendors will really find value in.
The downside is that you won’t really need the aforementioned tools if you’ve spent a few months selling on Amazon, but you’ll still have to pay for them, as they are mandatory features.
Who Is This For?
AMZScout is perfectly suited for new Amazon FBA sellers while potentially being great for experienced vendors looking for highly specific product research tools (keyword tracker, Dropshipping search, or trend reports).
4. ZonGuru
Overview
If Jungle Scout, Helium10, and AMZScout were to blend into one product, something like ZonGuru would come out as a result. This highly versatile platform offers a variety of product research, listing optimization, business metrics, and customer engagement products.
One of the best things about Zon Guru is that you’ll have a decent amount of freedom when it comes to selecting which features you want to use and pay for. The pricing packages are both quite affordable and comprised of logically-connected features.
Some of the most notable Zon Guru tools include the Niche Finder, Keywords Spotlight, Listing Optimizer, Easy Source, and Google Chrome Extension.
Key Features
- Up to 300 niche researches
- Chrome extension
- Sales Spy
- Alibaba.com integration (Easy Source)
- Up to 30 monthly Keywords on Fire
- Listing optimizer
Pricing
ZonGuru offers two subscription plans, including Researcher at $39 per month, and Seller at $49 per month. The amount of active SKUs (stock-keeping units) influences the overall price of the Seller subscription.
What I Like / Dislike About ZonGuru
Affordability isn’t the only thing that is amazing about ZonGuru. Its powerful analytic tools, as well as a variety of unique features, such as the Sales Spy and IP monitor, are just some of the reasons why so many people use this platform.
Its only drawback as far as I’m concerned is the lack of business metrics in the basic package. You can’t manage your products (or orders) unless you subscribe to the Seller package.
Who Is This For?
As we are focused on Amazon product research, I would recommend ZonGuru to new FBA vendors and FBM entrepreneurs. If you’re on a low budget, it’s worth giving a try, as its packages are among the cheapest on the list.
5. Viral Launch
Overview
Viral Launch is a combination of multiple Amazon product research SaaS tools coupled with an Amazon product-launching service.
In addition to product discovery solutions, to platform’s suite of apps encompasses market intelligence, competitor intelligence, keyword research, list-building, and PPC tools. These “side” features are important, as they are included in different subscriptions.
The core Viral Launch package dubbed “Essentials” is Viral Launch’s product research side of the suite. Its main features are Amazon product filtering, keyword volume search, global market data, and the browser extension.
With more advanced subscriptions, you could also benefit from competitor monitoring, SEO optimization, rank tracking, and more comprehensive tracking of relevant metrics, such as monthly revenue, price trends, or historical sales.
Key Features
- Integrated browser research extension
- Global data (across different Amazon marketplaces)
- Amazon product filtering
- Competitor monitoring
- Advertising analytics and data
- Customizable automation
- Viral Launch product launch service
Pricing
Viral Launch offers its programs across three subscription packages, including Essentials at $69 per month; Pro at $99 per month, and Pro Plus Ads at $199 per month.
What I Like / Dislike About Viral Launch
Viral Launch’s tools can set up an Amazon FBA brand from scratch, equipping it with powerful tools that could yield results in mere weeks. Even the most affordable package is versatile enough to provide your business with scan Amazon for the best-selling products, but it’s the Product Launch that really separates it from its contemporaries.
There are a few downsides to this platform. Many Amazon brands are already outsourcing SEO and list-building tools while beginner traders often don’t have the budget to support subscriptions as costly as Pro (or Pro Plus Ads).
Who Is This For?
I recommend Viral Launch’s Essentials to new brands and its Product Launch service to all FBA vendors that are searching for a cheap and effective way of bolstering sales through promotional events.
6. Sonar
Overview
Sonar is a free Amazon keyword search tool developed by Sellics. It is equipped with a multitude of robust features, including a keyword search volume checker and the reverse ASIN search while covering millions of existing Amazon keywords across several Amazon markets.
One of the core features of Sonar is the “Extended Search” bar. Basically, it extends the scanning range to synonymous keywords, allowing businesses an opportunity to be a bit more creative with product titles while still hitting the mark.
The built-in keyword translator is one of the most valuable features for Amazon vendors operating in foreign markets. By simply clicking the “Translate” menu, the keywords will be accurately transcribed into the selected language.
Key Features
- A wealthy database comprised of over 180 million Amazon keywords
- Reverse ASIN keyword search
- Amazon keyword search volume checker
- Built-in search bar
- Optional “exclude permutations” box
- Covers multiple Amazon markets
Pricing
Sonar is a free-to-use Amazon keyword tracker.
What I Like / Dislike About Sonar
Considering that most Amazon product-searching tools cost at least a couple of dollars each month, Sonar being free to use is phenomenal. If we look at it from that perspective, it doesn’t have any major flaws, but performance-wise, it is a basic keyword tracker.
Who Is This For?
Sonar may not give you the edge over your competitors, but it will enable your Amazon brand to stand on its two feet. While being perfect for newly founded brands, it’s also a decent tool to use in a pinch, such would be if the subscription for your outsourced tools ran out and you need to conduct a few quick product searches.
7. SellerApp
Overview
SellerApp is much more than just a product research tool. It’s a full-fledged Amazon sales platform designed to meet the needs of vendors of all sizes with an array of highly advanced tools and features.
Its core features revolve around product research & tracking, advertising, augmenting sales, and powerful analytics.
In terms of product tracking, SellerApp offers between 2 and 50 monthly searches; for product and keyword research, the ultimate “Professional” subscription covers up to 2,000 each month. E-commerce automation and driving sales up to $250,000 are other notable benefits of using this platform.
Regarding analytics, SellerApp allows users to track up to 100 keywords or ASIN numbers each month but more importantly, they can also retain this data indefinitely. The only exception lies in the free version, in which the data retention span is only 60 days.
I should also mention that SellerApp is more of a marketing platform, offering online automation and thousands of dollars’ worth of advertisements across all subscriptions.
Key Features
- Unlimited access to up to 2,000 product and keyword research per month
- FBA automation up to $20,000
- Table and custom data reports
- Up to 100 keywords & ASINs covered
- Lifetime data retention
- Collaboration features
Pricing
SellerApp offers two subscription packages, including Pro Lite at $39 per month, and Professional at $79 per month. A free version is also available with limited features.
What I Like / Dislike About SellerApp
You can use SellerApp for free indefinitely, which is the thing I love the most about this website. Although you can track up to 2 products and perform up to 2 product/keyword searches a day, you can still start your business off the ground while paying nothing for it.
Although the platform has quite a few unique features, such as Amazon ACoS (advertising cost of sales), PPC audit, or product sourcing, it feels like the platform was built around online marketing solutions rather than Amazon product research tools.
Who Is This For?
SellerApp is best suited for Amazon merchants that need to find the products they aim to sell and then work on ranking them through the platform’s advertising mechanisms. If you’ve already covered the marketing side of your business and need a dedicated Amazon product research tool, it’s still a pretty decent option.
8. Scout IQ
Overview
Amazon niches are important to vendors, as understanding what types of customers interact with what types of products are some of the prerequisites of running a successful business. I need to preface this review by saying that Scout IQ deals with a single niche – book readers, buyers, sellers, and collectors.
You’d be surprised how well books sell on Amazon, despite the fact that Kindle nearly stuffed the market out a decade ago. This app was designed to find the most profitable books by leveraging dozens of unique tracking features and is one of the best programs in the category.
One of the most unique features of Scout IQ is called “eScore”. Basically, this feature lists the dates when books sold the most in the previous 180 days, effectively countering some of the most unpredictable factors, such as the market’s volatility, or surges of demand.
Another revolutionary feature of this app is the Smart Triggers system. According to the company, so many books on Amazon don’t have a visible price tag, instead offering a range of different tags for used, new, and Prime books. Smart Triggers dive deep into this and create a realistic price tag in mere moments.
What’s more, you can download the Scout IQ database and use it while offline to search for the best-selling ones. The newly introduced Speed Mode now allows Amazon vendors to scan for relevant information about books with a smartphone camera. A barcode is all that is needed to receive full information about any given book.
Key Features
- Crowd sourced data
- Book trade-in value
- Smart Triggers
- Speed Mode
- eScore
- Downloadable database
Pricing
Scout IQ offers two subscription options, including Scout IQ live at $14 per month and Scout IQ Database at $44 per month. Discounts are available for committing to lengthier subscriptions, or if both plans are to be used simultaneously.
What I Like / Dislike About Scout IQ
If you’ve chosen to sell books on Amazon, look no further than Scout IQ. It’s the most comprehensive, all-encompassing book research tool, featuring everything you need to set up shop right away.
The obvious drawback is that it’s virtually useless for Amazon vendors that don’t want to limit their catalog to books exclusively.
Who Is This For?
Even if you are selling everything and anything on Amazon, I still recommend adding a few books to your arsenal, as they’re not too demanding in terms of maintenance. Scout IQ is perfect for dedicated book dealers and an okay option for everyone else.
9. Unicorn Smasher
Overview
Unicorn Smasher is a dedicated Amazon product research app. It’s remarkably easy to use, and it was designed as a Chrome extension, allowing you to research products while browsing the web in real-time.
One of the main features of Unicorn Smasher is a suite of analytic tools designed to provide accurate ratings, sales estimation, product ranks, ratings, and a myriad of data regarding product prices.
Given that this app was designed by AMZ Tracker, it seamlessly integrates with it and augments its benefits. It also features an intuitive dashboard, from which you can manage all product research and access the rest of Unicorn Smasher’s functions.
Key Features
- A dashboard with intuitive UI
- Sales estimates
- Opportunity score
- Big data extraction (ranks, ratings, reviews, prices)
- AMZ Tracker integration
Pricing
Unicorn Smasher is available in three subscription packages, including Basic at $49.99 per month; Professional at $99 per month, and Suite at $159 per month.
What I Like / Dislike About Unicorn Smasher
Unicorn Smasher is surprisingly easy to use for a tool that extracts heaps of data with surgical accuracy. It’s also a lightweight app that can be used as a Chrome extension without disrupting your natural workflow.
On the downside, it doesn’t offer that many unique features while costing more than Jungle Scout or Helium10.
Who Is This For?
Unicorn Smasher is great for Amazon merchants that are searching for a software suite that can both be used for product research and driving sales.
Wrap Up
The best Amazon product research tool is a big data gatherer, straightforward to use, and capable of adapting to the incredibly flexible marketplace that is Amazon. I would generally recommend starting your journey with Jungle Scout and making your way down the list if it doesn’t meet your needs.
